SOLANGE KNOWLES 28 MARRIES 51 YEAR OLD LOVER

Solange Piaget Knowles and Alan Gerard Ferguson were married Sunday afternoon near the bride’s home in the Faubourg Marigny district in New Orleans. The ceremony took place at the Marigny Opera House, a nondenominational church supported by the Marigny Opera House Foundation.

Musician Solange Knowles and her fiance, music video director Alan Ferguson, rode bicycles in the French Quarter of New Orleans en route to their wedding.
The bride, 28, wore a white floor-length caped dress by Humberto Leon for Kenzo with gold cuffs from Lady Grey. Breaking with tradition, the entire wedding party, which included the bride’s older sister, Beyoncé Knowles and her sister’s husband Jay-Z, also wore white.
According to Vogue magazine, the musicians Kelela, Questlove and Kindness performed, and the bride and Daniel Julez, her 10-year-old son from her first marriage, had a dance-off to the song “No Flex Zone” by the hip-hop group Rae Sremmurd. Most recently the bride, who is a singer, songwriter, model and D.J., was project director for “Saint Heron,” an album from Saint Records, her label, with the work of various artists. She is also an owner of Exodus Goods, a boutique in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Ms. Knowles wrote music for Destiny’s Child, her sister’s former group.

The bride is a daughter of Tina Knowles and Mathew Knowles, both of Houston, and a stepdaughter of Gena Charmaine Avery. The bride’s father is a former Xerox sales representative; as the founder and president of Music World Entertainment, he was the manager of Destiny’s Child and, for a time, his daughter Beyoncé. The bride’s mother ran a beauty salon before becoming stylist and choreographer for Destiny’s Child.
Mr. Ferguson, 51, is a videographer and director of music videos who has worked with Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Katy Perry, John Legend, Nelly Furtado, Natasha Bedingfield and Chris Cornell, among others.

He is a son of Winifred Hocker Ferguson of Richmond, Va., and the late William Alfred Ferguson Sr. The groom’s father was an Army veteran and letter carrier for the United States Postal Service.
Ms. Knowles and Mr. Ferguson were first seen together in public in 2008 at an art gallery. They kept their relationship quiet but were spotted at various music functions and at a party with Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

In late 2011, Ms. Knowles posted pictures of herself with Mr. Ferguson and her son following a vacation in Paris. “I spent a month in Paris this past summer with Julez and Alan,” she wrote, according to the blog Hello Beautiful. “We rented a small charming apartment on the 10th [Arrondissement] and ate and drank our way through beautiful, memorable days.”
The couple spent her 28th birthday last June in Jamaica and now divide their time between her New Orleans home and Brooklyn.

Ms. Knowles told Harper’s Bazaar in March that going through an early marriage and divorce gave her an “insane amount” of perspective on life. “Everyone talks about how in your 30s, all of these growing pains transition into wisdom and you feel more self-assured and confident, but I think I had a bit of a jump-start on that at 27,” she said. “For the first time in my life I am basing my decision around the idea off whether I want to do it, or if I think it will be inspiring. And that’s paid off for me.”
